There are a lot of photographers out there these days, and lots of different types of photography.  I’m not saying that one is better than the other, but I want to give you a little view of what I do and what Custom Photography is all about!

Custom Photographers use the camera, surroundings and props to make the “shot.”  After that, we do our Post Processing.  This is editing the photo (I use Photoshop) until we are happy with the outcome.  Each photographer has a different style and a different idea of what a great photo is during the editing stage.  Photography is art after all! :)   With each photo I edit, I try to give my clients an artistic version of themselves (or their children or pets) while trying to stay true to that person’s essence.  (the word essence always reminds me of the Friends episode with Joey and Chandler and the chair “you stole the essence of the chair!”)   But I digress…. I usually lightly buff out under eye circles, blemishes, scratches and anything in the background that is distracting.  I also usually tend to enjoy photos with a lot of light in them- so most of my photos will be very bright and usually colorful.   I usually don’t tend to go with wacky weird coloring only slightly different from what you might actually see.  That’s what I love.  I love artistic shots and detail shots (like closeups of feet, hands, faces, etc) and shots that show my clients as who they really are.

I am going to put a before and after shot on my website of a couple of the photos I’ve edited.  I may do this from time to time, just to continue giving you a glimpse from behind the scenes at flASH photography! :)

The first photo is from a senior session I did awhile back.  Notice I removed the distractions from the background and lightened the whole photos and gave the colors a little “pop.”

The second photo is from a newborn session I did awhile back.  I buffed out the under eye circles, cloned out the baby acne, lightened and boosted the colors, and finally gave it a light pink wash to give the photo an even more girly feel :)

Welcome Back… myself!

Posted on March 12, 2012

Hey everyone!  Sorry I’ve been MIA on the blogsite lately.  Greg and I recently moved from Asheville to the Raleigh, NC area.   As you probably know, moving STINKS.  It eats up all your time and energy- not to mention your stuff is in dissarry! (and for me that is rough, cause I loves me some organization!) Anywho, I’ve updated the blog with the last few recent photo sessions we’ve done and more are sure to follow once we get settled in here.

If you know anyone in the Raleigh, NC area who needs a good photographer and a fun photography experience, send ‘em our way! Thanks! :)

Spiritual Bridges Ministry {portraits}

Posted on March 12, 2012

Here are a few photos from my recent photo session with A’Bonni from Spiritual Bridges Ministry.  She runs a unique moblie ministry in the Raleigh area.   A’Bonni wanted some headshots in order to update her website and other social media pages for her ministry, so we went to downtown Zebulon to get a few great shots.  And not only did we get a few great shots, we had a great time too!   Check out her website or Facebook page for more details at  the Spiritual Bridges Ministry website or on their Facebook Page.

Here are a few photos from a photo session I did awhile back for my father-in-law.  These are his two “puppies,” Sport & Susie.  Sport was a much better model for me and Susie was camera shy- but I still got a few photos of her.  Gotta love our pets!! :)

Anniversary Photos

Posted on December 5, 2011

My parents have been married over 30 years!  How awesome is that?!  That is definitley quite a feat in today’s world.  They are pretty much the most adorable couple ever (except, of course, for me and my husband Greg that is!).   They will tell you that they are more in love today than when they first met- and if you knew them, you would be able to see that is so true!   (I think it shows in their photos too!) So, for their 30th Anniversary, part of my gift to them was taking photos for them.  I never thought of this as being a gift idea for others, just something I wanted to do for my parents.  I think they turned out so sweet- and I would recommend this idea to any of you out there who are celebrating any anniversary- especially those celebrating many years together! :)

Smash The Cake Session

Posted on December 5, 2011

Ok…just thinking about cake right now made my mouth fill with saliva… maybe that’s TMI, but sorry! I am craving me some cake right now! Ah… but I digress… ;)   Anywho, here are some photos from a one year old’s birthday “Smash the Cake” session.  I LOVE doing these! I love their expressions and how stinkin’ messy they get!  If you have great windows or a sliding glass door we can do these shots inside, if not, a well designed outside Smash The Cake Session makes for awesome photos too!  Ps… Check out the adorable hat on this little guy!  His mom (aka-one of my best friends:))  made a fabulous cake and the perfect choice for that hat! Look at this cutie’s photos below :)
